Condition Information

Juvenile Arthritis

JA is an inflammatory, autoimmune disease that affects the joints and sometimes the eyes, internal organs, and muscles, and is diagnosed in children from 0 to 16yrs of age.

Fibromyalgia

A condition where the main symptom is long lasting pain that affects the whole body. The pain is not brought on by injury.

Osteoporosis

This disease makes bones become brittle leading to a higher risk of breaks than in normal bone. Osteoporosis occurs when bones lose minerals, such as calcium, more quickly than the body can replace them, causing a loss of bone thickness (bone density or mass).

Long COVID

Most people who get sick with COVID-19 recover within two to six weeks but some people have ongoing symptoms for weeks or months, known as post- or long COVID. It is estimated that up to one third of people who get sick with COVID-19 will have long COVID. Long COVID is a biological, not psychological, condition.

Back Pain

Back pain includes pain that affects any area of your spine or the surrounding muscles, nerves and tissues. Your back includes the area from your neck to your buttocks. Low back pain is pain that is felt in the lower part of the spine.

Sciatica

Sciatica is pain that radiates from the lower back down the buttocks and leg. It may feel like a mild tingling, dull ache, or burning sensation. In some cases, the pain is severe enough to make a person unable to move. The pain most often occurs on one side. Some people have sharp pain in one part of the leg or hip and numbness in other parts.

Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome

POTS is a condition that causes a number of symptoms when you transition from lying down to standing up, such as a fast heart rate, dizziness and fatigue. It’s a disorder of the autonomic nervous system.

Post Exertional Malaise

PEM is where minimal exertion can cause fatigue, pain and cognitive problems. People with fatiguing conditions can experience PEM. Minor physical or mental activity can worsen symptoms of PEM. The level of activity that triggers PEM varies from person to person. This can occur from 12-48 hours after activity.

Sjögren’s Disease

Sjögren’s Disease is an autoimmune condition that causes pain and swelling of the joints. The immune systems role is to fight infection to keep you healthy, but sometimes your immune system can attack your own healthy tissues by mistake.

Neuralgia

Neuralgia, characterized by sharp, shocking pain along a nerve’s path, is often caused by nerve damage or irritation, which can stem from various factors like injury, pressure, infections, or underlying medical conditions. It may be possible to prevent or reduce your chance of getting some types of nerve pain.

Migraine

Migraines are a common neurological disorder characterized by episodes of moderate-to-severe headache, often accompanied by nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light and sound.

Polymyalgia Rheumatica

PMR is an inflammatory disease that causes pain and stiffness in the muscles and joints. It’s most common in people over 65 and is more common in women. If left untreated, PMR can interfere with mobility.

Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia

BPH or an enlarged prostate, is a non-cancerous condition where the prostate gland grows larger, potentially causing urinary problems. It’s also called an enlarged prostate. The prostate is a small gland that helps make semen. It’s found just below the bladder. And it often gets bigger as you get older.

Neuropathic Pain

Neuropathic pain is nerve pain that can happen if your nervous system malfunctions or gets damaged. You can feel pain from any of the various levels of your nervous system, including your peripheral nerves, your spinal cord and your brain.

Endometriosis

Endometriosis is a disease in which tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus. It usually grows in your pelvis but can occur in almost any part of the body. It can cause severe pain in the pelvis and make it harder to get pregnant. Endometriosis can start at a person’s first menstrual period and last until menopause.

Psoriatic Arthritis

PsA is an autoimmune disease, where the immune system attacks its own tissues and causes inflammation of the joints. The joints become painful, stiff and often swollen.

Gout

Gout is a common and complex form of arthritis that can affect anyone. It’s characterised by sudden, severe attacks of pain, swelling, redness and tenderness in one or more joints, most often in the big toe. Other joints can also be affected, such as ankles, knees, hands, wrists and elbows.

Lupus

Lupus is also known as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). It is a chronic autoimmune disease that causes the body’s immune system to attack healthy tissues. It affects each person differently with symptoms that are sometimes hard to detect and differ from person to person.

OA is a chronic condition that causes the cartilage in joints to break down, resulting in pain, stiffness and swelling. A degenerative disease that worsens over time, affecting a person’s ability to move freely.

Rheumatoid Arthritis

RA is an autoimmune disease that causes pain and swelling of the joints. The immune systems role is to fight infection to keep you healthy, but sometimes your immune system can attack your own healthy tissues by mistake.
